In this article, we break down how to get News appearing in your server via a single (or multiple) text channel(s).

  1. Create a discord text channel with a category, name, and topic of your choice. The only requirement is that the Quant Data bot can see the text channel (when you look at the members listings of the channel, you should see our bot!). If you plan on making multiple text channels for different types of news articles to listen to, go for it!

  2. Make sure that the Discord bot is able to send messages in the text channel(s).

  3. Now the bot needs to know that the new text channel(s) will receive news. To specify this, do !setData news #your-text-channel. If you have multiple channels to add, you can do !setData news #channel-1 #channel-2 #channel-3

  4. Now that you have your channels in place and ready to go, we need to specify which channels receive news from what news article type. We'll be using Upgrades and Downgrades as our example handle. If you want to set up a channel to only listen to a single twitter handle, in the topics section of the text channel, add the following: tags="Upgrades". If you want to add multiple handles, simply separate them by commas: tags="Upgrades, Downgrades". Note that if a news channel has no tags, it will simply receive all news of any article type.

  5. That's it! When the market is open, you will receive news in that text channel on your server.

Article Contents

In Discord, our articles provide a headline, the related tickers, related topics, a sentiment, and a link to the full article.

Sentiment is indicated by the side-bar on the Discord embed. The redder the side-bar is, the more negative the article is in relations to the tickers covered. The greener the side-bar is, the more positive the article is in relations to the tickers covered. A white color indicates no sentiment.

The article content often times can not fit fully within the embed due to Discord's content length restrictions. As a result, we provide a link for users to click to view the full article. Note that while the link works, the article is only visible to users that have a membership under our website.
